Guide to Activate a New Card of Capital One
With a Capital One online account, you can pay your credit card bill, redeem your rewards, view recent transactions, check your balance, send a secure message, change your address, change your phone number and dispute a charge. When you receive a card in the mail, visit capitalone.com/activate.
- If you already have an online banking account for another Capital One credit card, you can use that sign-in information to access your accounts. To activate your card, you’ll need to enter the 3-digit CVV code from the back of your card.
- If you don’t have an online account, enroll in online banking first and use that information to sign in. You will need your account number, your Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number and a valid email address to enroll. Input the 3-digit security code from the back of your credit card to activate the card.
- You can also activate your credit card by phone by calling 1-800-678-7820.
- If you are a customer in Canada, call 1-800-655-5646 to activate your card.
- If you don’t see your credit card on the activation page, call the number in your credit card’s activation sticker.
In case of forgetting your username or password, click “Forgot Username” or “Forgot Password” to retrieve them. Only the primary account holder has the right to do so. Enter your account type, account number, date of birth and your SSN. If you have any other questions, click “Which sign-in information do I use?” for help. Authorized Users click ” Authorized Users” and follow its instructions to activate your card.

I cut mine up because its too much trouble…..I tried several times and gave up too….It keeps asking for ssn and birthday as it sends you to another site….waste of time

I have tried several times to activate the new card I just received. However, your site has decided not to let me do this. It keeps sending me to the bill payment page even though I keep trying to go to capitalone.com/activate. Apparently because I tried too many times, UNSUCCESSFULLY, to get to that site, you have now chosen to lock me out of my account. I am temporarily without phone service, so I cannot call you. I would appreciate your fixing the SNAFU and giving me the correct instructions on how to activate my card online. Thank you!
Impossible to activate card on this sight. Very frustrating. Have tried three times.
Capitol One has a problem.
Giving a 4 rating for now because I got my Platinum card activated with no problems,but can’t find any useful info about getting a PIN anywhere,just “We may give you a personal identification number (PIN). For security reasons,you may have to provide the PIN before you are able to use your card” Well….duhhh…Does Capital One send it separately or can I get one through my online Capital One account somehow?

I don’t want a twitter account I don’t want an on line account I just want to activate my new credit card I don’t know what you are talking about when you want a social security number we have national insurance numbers in England and you don’t recognise mine and you don’t recognise my password or user name so much for taking only a minute to activate I have lost half hour already why cant you activate by text or the last digits on back of card please help because I don’t know what you want you don’t recognise anything I put in cheers ken
